Description
Smithfield is the oldest part of the City of London, relatively untouched by the destruction of the Great Fire of London. Join Anne to discover the monastery that once dominated the area until King Henry VIII closed it down and see its legacy, the oldest church in London and the oldest hospital in the UK. A centuries old meat market still operates here today and as well as hearing its story, we'll uncover the darker side of Smithfield's past including executions, body snatchers, plague pits and the crime-ridden slums of Victorian London.
