Description

Since its very beginning, the City of London has been a creator of wealth. From its origins 2000 years ago as a trading post in the Roman Empire to today, it has been vital to the economy of the country. With this money came power. On this walking tour we’ll discover some of the people and institutions that benefitted from it – and we’ll hear about some of those who did not.

We’ll begin our tour in the oldest part of the City and there we’ll hear about medieval markets, merchants and trade guilds. Later you’ll see some of the great financial institutions that grew up to support trade as it went global, including the Bank of England. And in the hidden alleyways you’ll discover how coffee led to a financial revolution that changed the world. Bringing our story right up to date, we’ll end our tour among the spectacular skyscrapers that are the hub of the City’s financial sector today.
